Running into an Old Friend

Author: I was at the grocery store today when I ran into an old friend. I hadn’t seen him since high school and he looked really good. He told me that he had dropped out of college and taken some Microsoft Server training courses. He finished those up rather quickly and then landed a job right away. He’s been doing incredibly well and even decided to invest some of his money in gold and foreign stocks. He told me that this is where all the growth is in the coming years, mainly because America isn’t what it once was. He also started talking about how the dollar may lose its reserve currency status and that when that happens, it will be lights out for our economy.
As he continued to speak I wondered how he learned all of this since he was so involved with his Microsoft Server training. It sounded to me like he’d be better off as a financial planner, but he told me that he just learned all of this stuff on the side. He said that he was never very good with money, but that after he learned how economics really worked, it all started to make sense to him.
